More to Share
As the Hong Kong Museum of Art is now temporarily closed for a major renovation and expansion project, we are actively organising exhibitions and programmes around town. On the web, we are proactively developing our Hong Kong art archive because we believe that being able to access information and data on the internet is essential for the development and study of Hong Kong art. Though the Museum's premises are temporarily closed, we are trying to be more accessible in the digital world and are working hard to enrich information on our website. Last year, we launched the pilot phase of "Hong Kong Art Research Portal", to introduce a handy way of accessing information, by uploading information and images from the Museum's exhibitions and programmes along with related archival materials.
After the pilot phase, we immediately began the second phase ― the ‘enriched version'. We have invited other art organisations to take part in this portal project, and asked them to share their materials. The first batch of materials that have been uploaded to the Portal comprises records of exhibitions from the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. These include its exhibitions on contemporary Hong Kong art, ink art, graphics design, fashion design and jewellery design. About 150 newly digitised files are now available on the Portal.
As it is our wish to establish a research platform to encourage in-depth study of Hong Kong art, we will invite other colleagues in the art community ― such as museums, art organisations, institutions, artists ― to join hands in this project. While the Portal is in the development stage, we understand that there is room to improve. For example, some copyright restricted items are not uploaded to the Portal, but we will try to provide a list of these items available for on-site viewing, so that members of the public may contact us to view them. During the Museum renovation period, our Resources Centre is closed, but we will endeavour to facilitate viewing upon request. To make an appointment and for other details, please go to "FAQs".
Your feedback and comments are most welcomed. Your thoughts can reach us, by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Together, we can turn this Portal into a veritable treasure trove of Hong Kong art!
