Venice Biennale Internship Programme 2026 (Applications now open)

The Hong Kong Museum of Art’s (HKMoA) “Venice Biennale Internship Programme 2026” is now open for applications. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to join the prestigious international art event. This on-site internship in Venice offers valuable hands-on experience in exhibition production and operations, while broadening interns’ cultural and international horizons.

Six selected interns will receive professional training provided by the HKMoA and undertake a six-week internship in Venice, Italy, between May to November 2026. They will support the daily operations, along with venue and crowd management, for the Hong Kong Exhibition at the Venice Biennale. They will also serve as a bridge between artists and audiences, guiding visitors through the exhibits. An allowance will be provided to cover transportation, accommodation and daily expenses.

The Venice Biennale (the International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia) is the world’s oldest international exhibition of contemporary visual arts. In 2026, the HKMoA is collaborating with the Hong Kong Arts Development Council to participate in the Collateral Event of the 61st edition, demonstrating the vitality and accomplishments of Hong Kong art.

Qualifications and Requirements of Interns: 

  1. be a permanent resident of the HKSAR, normally residing in Hong Kong, with a valid travel document for travel to Italy;
  2. hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher from a Hong Kong university or equivalent qualification, preferably majoring in Fine Arts, Art History, Art Education, Museum Studies, or related fields;
  3. possess Level 5 or above in English and Chinese in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE), or equivalent; speak native Cantonese and fluent English and Putonghua; an excellent command of written Chinese and English; a strong command of written and spoken Italian would be an advantage;
  4. have preferably at least three years of full-time work experience in art project management. Experience in museums, galleries or art institutions would be an advantage;
  5. demonstrate a strong interest in contemporary art and a desire to pursue a career in this field, along with knowledge of Hong Kong and international artists.
  6. be proficient in MS Office applications (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Chinese Word Processing; photo-editing and elementary video-editing skills preferred;
  7. be proficient in social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram and electronic devices;
  8. be devoted, self-motivated, detail-minded and efficient, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities of Interns:

  • assisting with the daily operations at the Hong Kong Exhibition venue, including equipment and storage management, and mounting and dismantling the Exhibition;
  • inspecting and maintaining the condition of exhibits, including managing the AV equipment and PA system for the Exhibition;
  • monitoring and assisting with the regular cleaning of the Exhibition venue;
  • providing essential administrative support;
  • liaising and coordinating with the HKMoA teams, appointed contractors, working partners, artists, and other organisations and institutions;
  • assisting in the archiving and documentation of the Hong Kong Exhibition, including recording visitor numbers, simple photo-taking, video-shooting and editing;
  • supporting the management and operations of the HKMoA’s social media channels by contributing innovative ideas for design, content, etc., and assisting in their promotion and publicity campaigns;
  • introducing the Exhibition to visitors and providing timely and professional responses to visitor enquiries, comments and reactions;
  • performing any other duties assigned by HKMoA staff.
