To promote art in the community, the Museum provides a variety of education and extension services, including workshops, demonstrations, lectures, talks, video programmes and the education corner as well as on-line resources. The following services are available for those who wish to enjoy art at the Museum at the pace and in the way that suits them:
Public Guided Tour
Public guided tours are given by museum docents in English or Cantonese covering a variety of topics, including the history of the Museum, its collections and services as well as special exhibitions.
The Museum currently has 107 docents, and they provided 2,005 guided tours for 44,393 visitors in 2011.

Audio Guide Service
The audio guide service provides pre-recorded commentaries on exhibition highlights in a choice of English, Cantonese or Putonghua. From 1997 to 2011, over 263,500 users made use of this service.
It was in 1993 that the first audio guide service – provided in the form of a cassette player – was inaugurated in the Museum. The CD-Rom audio guide was introduced in 1997 and the current MP3 player was launched in 2003.
