01 Brief Overview
To complement the exhibition “Boundless Universe: Calligraphy by Jat See-yeu”, the Hong Kong Museum of Art has invited Dr Ruby Leung Pui-yi to conduct research on renowned Hong Kong calligrapher Jat See-yeu’s life and art of calligraphy for the community. The outcomes include Jat See-yeu’s biography and artistic highlights, a video tour, a guided map and a sharing session.

02 Jat See-yeu’s Biography and Artistic Highlights
An avid calligrapher from a tender age, Jat See-yeu went to Taiwan in the 1950s to pursue his studies. At university, he studied philology from notable teachers, which laid a foundation for the innovation of his calligraphy style. After returning to Hong Kong, he committed himself not only to creative pursuits but also to calligraphy education. He actively participated in exhibitions, competitions, and local and international exchange events while lending great support to the organisation of calligraphy groups, making significant contributions to the promotion of the art of calligraphy.

03 Video Tour and Guided Map
Having long resided in Cheung Chau, Jat See-yeu actively participated in community activities. His calligraphy enriches various community spaces, including Cheung Chau Tung Koon Association, where fellow townsmen gather, and Kwok Man School, where he educated young minds. Traces of his works also grace the local hospital, parks, temples and memorial pavilions, as well as residential streets and alleys. From Jat’s long-time residence Cheung Chau to Kowloon Walled City Park and Hammer Hill Park in Wong Tai Sin, this video tour and guided map invite viewers to explore Jat’s artistic trail, discovering the treasures he left in the city and experiencing first-hand imprints of the life that he led with ink as his faithful companion.

04 Sharing Session
The sharing session "The Trail of Jat See-yeu’s Calligraphy in the City" was held on 11 May 2024. Hong Kong Museum of Art has invited Dr Ruby Leung and local artist and art critic Mr Chan Sai-lok to appreciate Jat’s calligraphy, sharing the stories of community development and human connections behind the works.
